Hi

my name is chris nimmo, Im from Ayrshire, Scotland, and I'm trying to track down my ancestors, in the effort to apply for dual citizenship.

My great grandmothers name is Laura Nimmo (maiden name is Marcantonio)
She was born on 20th august 1899 in Picinisco and passed on 13th april 1989.

Her parents are Lorenzo Marcantonio (born 1868,Picinisco) and Maria Marcantonio (maiden name Palombo, born 1867, Villa Latina)

Her grandparents were Gioseppe and maria Palombo

Does this ring a bell for anyone??

I was also wondering is anyone could point me in the direction of the birth registary website for italian nationals.

Hi Chris

Are you John's son? I am your cousin Marisa. Your great grandmother Laura was my great grandmother Serafina's younger sister.

Thanks to Michel, Uncle Laurence and I have a wonderful Marcantonio line going back to the 1500s.

I am not sure how the jure sanguinis for dual citizenship works - it has been a while since I looked at it. There may be a problem with the dual citizenship as Laura was female and born in Scotland before 1948. It works by passing the right to citizenship down through the line of blood as long as, at the time of birth of the next one in the 'chain', the parent with the right to citizenship had not renounced it in favour of that of another country. As far as I am aware, Lorenzo Marcantonio never renounced his citizenship of Italy by becoming a naturalised British citizen. The problem could be that this right has only been able to be passed on by women after 1948, and Gavin - your grandfather was born around 1936. I'm really shaky on this so I would get it checked. You would be best speaking to a solicitor who specialises in this kind of thing, or to the Italian consulate who should be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck - and hopefully someone who knows more about it might be able to help more than I can.

Marisa xx

Surprised Shocked

Hi Marisa

When I started tracing my family line I had no idea I would find living relatives, never mind being contact by one.

Yes I am Johns son, after my parents divorce I lost track of that side of the family.

Thank you for your information on dual citizenship, I have contacted the italian consulate in Endinburgh. I am finding that Italian bureaucracy if very intense and therefore very confusing. Hopefully I will come out on top.

I am currently at Uni studying MSc in Psychology. Moving to Italy was my retirement plan. I am living in Coylton these days with my Partner Kerry, I have a three year old son called sean and we are expected our next child any day now.

Forgive me but I know absolutly nothing about you Embarassed So i supose how are you is a good place to start Very Happy

It was very nice to hear from you

Speak soon

Hi Chris

Sorry about the delay getting back to you. My grandmother died and we had her funeral. Since then we have been sorting through her belongings which hasn't been very nice Sad However - I'm back at my computer now! I now have lots of photos of your great grandparents and grandparents courtesy of Grandma. Even some of your great great grandparents! Has your baby been born yet?

I see you have made contact with Uncle Laurence. He is great and a mine of information. He will be able to fill you in on lots of stuff.

Speak to you later

Marisa xx
