Help with Italian to England

Can any body help me is their any way i can find out when my grandfather
came to England from Italy i have looked on ever site but no luck is name is Angelo Fascione we think he came over around 1890s
Did you need a pastport in them days any help would be greatful

I too would like to know when it became essential to have a passport. My great grandfather's passport is in my possession and it was issued in April 1918. He had travelled Europe as a child (around 1880-90) with a padrone and I am curious to know how they got around any border issues.

I'll let you know if I find out anything.
