italian ancestors

hi i am trying to research my gggrandfathers family from italy i think they may have come from picinisco or maybe afina, i have found him on the british census with his wife mary mcannally and his children but my intersest lies in his family ie parents and siblings.
my gggrandfthers name was matthew castellian though the surname is spelt different on each census year,he came to liverpool to live but i dont know what year he came here or how he got here did he come as an adult or a a child with his family matthew was born 1840/1 if anyone could give me any information it would be great as i cannot find out anything about him before 1862 as that was when his first child ann was born
