Hi
can anyone help!. my GGGrandmother. Came to the Uk as a widow sometime in the 1870's . Her name was Maria Boni(nee Fortucci). She Married an Alessandro Pesaturo in Glasgow in 1879. these names don't seem to be common italian names. her son carmine Boni would have been about 13 years old then but i cannot find him on the census for 1881. i am just getting confused now!. where does the name Pesaturo originate from in Italy

Lol - this is where some of the spellings of the census enumerators give you a good laugh!

You can't find them on the 1881 census because Carmine Boni is listed on Ancestry under "Carmena Baun" His details are :-

Carmena Baun
Age: 16
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Relationship: Boarder
Gender: Male
Where born: Italy
Registration Number: 644/5
Registration district: Blackfriars
Civil parish: Glasgow St Paul
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 13 Bell Street
Occupation: Street Musician
ED: 26
Household schedule number: 14
Line: 16
Roll: cssct1881_226
Household Members: Name Age
Flemina Fannell 33
Pascolina Fannell 2
Louis Fannell 1
Carmena Baun 16
Caterina Fannell 60

His mum and step-dad are (I think!) listed as "Marie and Savario Pisatoor".

Marie Pisatoor
Age: 36
Estimated birth year: abt 1845
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Savario
Gender: Female
Where born: Italy
Registration Number: 644/5
Registration district: Blackfriars
Civil parish: Glasgow St Paul
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 13 Bell Street
Occupation: Street Musician
ED: 26
Household schedule number: 19
Line: 12
Roll: cssct1881_226
Household Members: Name Age
Marie Pisatoor 36
Savario Pisatoor 29
Sabetta Mirtooch 34

Notice that although Carmine is listed as a 'lodger' in a different household, he is living at the same address.

You will be able to see the original image for a small cost at Scotlan's People - but they may be indexed under a slightly different spelling depedning on how difficult the handwriting is to read.

I'll try and find them on other censuses for you later. I have a way with indexes Laughing

I can't find Carmine so far on the 1901 census - but I think this might be the Pesaturas -

Name: Pesaturs Saveris
Age: 48
Estimated birth year: abt 1853
Relationship: Head
Gender: Male
Where born: Italy
Registration Number: 644/7
Registration district: Blythswood
Civil parish: Glasgow St Stephens
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 40 West Russell St
Occupation: Tye Cream Shopkeeper
ED: 28
Household schedule number: 73
Line: 1
Roll: CSSCT1901_292
Household Members: Name Age
Pesaturs Saveris 48
Alexander Peraturs 15
Serapino Rhonzie 28

The wedding in 1879 is between Maria Fortucci and "Severo Pezature" on the indexes at Scotland's people.

The 1891 census took a bit of finding! here it is :-

Name: Saverin Pestara
Age: 38
Estimated birth year: abt 1853
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Itlay
Registration Number: 644/5
Registration district: Blackfriars
Civil parish: Glasgow Iron Church
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 76 Saltmarket
Occupation: Ice Cream Dealer
ED: 66
Household schedule number: 19
Line: 5
Roll: CSSCT1891_261
Household Members: Name Age
Saverin Pestara 38
Mary Pestara 48
Carmanuch Pestara 26
Carmella Bone 23
Angelina Pestaro 59
Papuch Lucina 30
Rosie Sucanden 22
Atellia Pestaro 22
Lervis Dimarcio 20
Alexanderia Mcral 6
Vincient Boni 3
Lardicin March 20
Climentina Pasterella 24

Carmine (Carmanuch) seems be using his step-father's surname (he is listed as 'son' under 'relationship to head of household') Carmella is using 'Bone'. She is listed as 'daughter-in-law' The Vincient looks like he is their son as he is listed as 'grandson'.

Carmine Boni is listed as a witness in the 1890/91 trial we were talking about (I knew I had seen his name somewhere!), and his address was 74 Saltmarket. That is the only way I managed to find this household as that spelling was beyond my imagination - lol.

The "Alexanderia Mcral" is actually the son of Saverio and Maria.

Lol - many years of searching indexes and finding all sorts of weird and wonderful spellings!

I'm wondering if the "Lervis Dimarcio" on the 1891 census might have been Lucia Di Marco - his second wife. Its probably worth a look at the original image to see if its any easier to read. You would also be able to look at the 1879 marriage certificate of Maria Fortucci on the same site (Scotlands People) which would give you her parents names. Have you been on that site at all? The spellings on the index are likely to be a bit different to those on Ancestry as they have been transcribed by a different group of people.
